This place feeds us. Let's feed it back.
After COVID, so many restaurants closed. Places that had been there for decades. Spots where families gathered and regulars knew the staff by name.
They didn't close because the food got worse. Rent went up. Ingredient costs went up. Staffing got harder. And on top of all of that, not enough people knew they existed. For a small family restaurant running on thin margins, any one of those things can be the last straw. For a lot of them, it was all of them at once.
Some are still hanging on. They need you now more than ever.
We weren't the only ones who felt this. Comedian Ali Wong, herself a lover of SGV food, spoke openly about wishing she had done more to shine a light on her favorite spots before it was too late. That maybe, if more people had known, some of those places would still be here. That sentiment stuck with us. It's part of why this site exists.
The SGV Deserves Better.
The San Gabriel Valley is one of the best places to eat in the world. Not because of what gets written about it. Because of what doesn't.
Hundreds of restaurants run by families who have been cooking the same recipes for decades. Owners who arrive before sunrise and leave after midnight. People who pour everything into their food with no marketing budget and no algorithm working for them.
They survive on word of mouth. On loyalty. On people who show up.
That's you.
You Won't Find Every Restaurant Here.
This site is built around small businesses. The places that are doing everything right but don't have anyone telling their story.
You might not find the big chains or the restaurants that already have a line around the block and a write-up in every major publication. Those places will be fine without us.
The spots here are the ones that won't. The family that has been open since 1987 and still doesn't have a website. The owner who is in the kitchen every single day. The restaurant that your neighbor knows about but nobody else does.
Those are the places we are here for.
You Already Know Something Worth Sharing.
You know the spot that doesn't look like much but has the best noodles you've ever had. You know the place your family has been going to for fifteen years.
That knowledge shouldn't stay in a group chat.
When you mark a restaurant you've visited, leave a review, or suggest a place that deserves more attention, you're doing something real. You're giving the next person a reason to walk through that door.
You're part of what keeps the SGV alive.
This Isn't a List. It's a Living Document.
Every restaurant here has a story. Most owners don't have time to tell it themselves.
That's where you come in.
The more you contribute, the better this gets. The better this gets, the more people find these restaurants. The more people find these restaurants, the more likely they are to still be here next year.
It starts with you.
A Note From Us.
Eat in SGV is run by Peter Kim and Lisa Kim, a husband and wife team from the San Gabriel Valley.
It started with a YouTube channel built to shine a light on restaurants that deserved more attention. We visited over 100 SGV spots and tried to document what makes this place so special.
But we couldn't do it alone. The SGV is too big and too good for two people to cover it right.
So we built this. A place where everyone who loves this valley can contribute, discover, and help these restaurants get the recognition they deserve.
We're glad you're here.
