Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 23, 2026

Eat in SGV is a small, independent site run by Peter and Lisa Kim. We take your privacy seriously and try to collect only what we actually need to run this site. Here's what that means in plain English.

What We Collect

Account information. When you create an account, we store your email address, display name, and username. This is handled through Supabase, our authentication provider.

Activity on the site. When you check in to a restaurant, write a review, save a place to a list, or submit a restaurant for the guide, we store that information linked to your account.

Membership status. If you become a paid supporter through Whop, we record that your account has an active membership so we can give you access to member features like the community chat. We do not store your payment details — those stay with Whop.

Newsletter subscriptions. If you sign up for our newsletter, your email is sent to MailerLite, our email service provider. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.

Usage data. We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site (which pages are popular, where traffic comes from, etc.). This data is aggregated and anonymous.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Run your account and let you use the site
  • Show your public profile and activity to other users (if you have a username)
  • Give paid members access to member-only features
  • Send newsletters you've opted into
  • Understand how to improve the site
  • Respond to messages you send us via the contact page

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising.

Third-Party Services

We use a handful of outside services to run the site:

  • Supabase — stores your account data and all site content (restaurant reviews, lists, check-ins)
  • Whop — handles membership payments and subscriptions
  • MailerLite — sends our newsletter to subscribers who opt in
  • Google Analytics — aggregated, anonymous site usage stats
  • Google Maps & Places API — restaurant photos and location data shown on the site
  • Cloudflare — hosts and serves the site

Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data on their end.

Your Rights

You can delete your account at any time from your account settings. When you do, your profile, reviews, and check-ins are removed from our database.

If you signed up for the newsletter, you can unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of any email.

If you want a copy of your data, or want us to delete something specific, email us at hello@eatinsgv.com.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you logged in between visits. We don't use advertising cookies or tracking cookies beyond what Google Analytics sets.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top. We'll let newsletter subscribers know about any significant changes.
