What to order

Bay Scallop Sushi at Dozo Sushi & Bar

Bay Scallop Sushi

Start with this

Sweet scallop was the star here. The pieces were small, but the light amount of rice kept the scallop in focus.

Sashimi Platter at Dozo Sushi & Bar

Sashimi Platter

Scallop and yellowtail were our favorites, with thick salmon close behind. The fish arrived chilled over ice with a soft, clean texture.

Assorted Sashimi at Dozo Sushi & Bar

Assorted Sashimi

A broad selection for trying several cuts at once. Quality was strongest with tuna, salmon, and yellowtail, though the thickness was inconsistent and the octopus was chewy.

Spicy Salmon Hand Roll at Dozo Sushi & Bar
Eat in SGV Staff

Spicy Salmon Hand Roll

Moderately spicy with a noticeable kick and one of the better later-round orders. It carries more rice than the nigiri and cut rolls.

Spicy Scallop Hand Roll

Sweet scallop under a moderately spicy sauce. This and the spicy salmon hand roll were the two hand rolls we would order again.

Monrovia Roll at Dozo Sushi & Bar

Monrovia Roll

Salmon, tuna, ripe avocado, imitation crab, and thin rice made a good base, but the spicy mayo and other sauces overwhelmed the fish for us.

Wagyu Roll at Dozo Sushi & Bar
Eat in SGV Staff

Wagyu Roll

Crunchy cucumber, creamy avocado, shrimp, and beef with a sweet, lightly peppery teriyaki drizzle. Enjoyable overall, though the beef flavor was subtle.

Specialty Roll Spread at Dozo Sushi & Bar
Eat in SGV Staff

Specialty Roll Spread

The Monrovia and Wagyu rolls arrived with careful presentation and relatively thin rice. Both were sauce-forward, so this spread suits diners who like sweeter, creamier rolls.

Salmon Nigiri at Dozo Sushi & Bar
Eat in SGV Staff

Salmon Nigiri

Sweet salmon in small, easy-to-pace pieces. The fish was good, though the sushi rice could have used more vinegar.

Sashimi Salad at Dozo Sushi & Bar
Eat in SGV Staff

Sashimi Salad

Salmon, tuna, and other sashimi over greens made a refreshing break from rice-heavy orders. We liked it and only wished the serving were larger.

Takoyaki at Dozo Sushi & Bar
Eat in SGV Staff

Takoyaki

Our order looked tempura-crisp outside but was mushy and undercooked inside. This was not a repeat order for us.

Salmon Skin Cut Roll at Dozo Sushi & Bar
Eat in SGV Staff

Salmon Skin Cut Roll

The salmon skin in our roll was stale and difficult to chew. This was the clearest skip from the visit.

What we'd do

"Start with the scallop, yellowtail, and spicy salmon hand roll. The fish quality was the pleasant surprise, but the experience had real misses too: our takoyaki was mushy, the salmon-skin roll was tough, and specialty rolls leaned heavily on sauce. On a busy night, send the next order while you are still eating."
