Start with thisThe $9.90 soft-opening set pairs fresh, thinly sliced chicken thigh with house clear broth, noodles, mushrooms, carrots, fish balls, fish slices, potato, taro, and leafy vegetables. Rice and noodles were unlimited when we visited. The chicken cooked quickly and stayed tender and bouncy.

For $13.90 during the soft opening, the chicken is replaced with thinly sliced Welsh lamb while the broth and accompaniments stay the same. The lamb had a pleasant chew and clear lamb flavor without a strong gamey finish.

A cloudy bone broth with garlic and Chinese herbs. It tasted savory and peppery with an almost creamy finish, while the herbs stayed restrained. Mushrooms, noodles, and taro were especially good after soaking up the broth.

"Start with the original herbal broth and choose the chicken set for the strongest value or the Welsh lamb set for the signature Happy Lamb experience. The broth has enough pepper, garlic, and savory depth that the optional sauce bar is genuinely optional. The San Gabriel promotion had no announced end date when we visited, so confirm it before making a special trip."
