Eat in SGV StaffFresh mango, organic Thai young coconut water, sago, and coconut milk. It is vegan and thick enough to sip slowly, with a strong natural mango flavor and plenty of sago. This was the best blend of mango and coconut from the visit.
Tart calamansi arrives first, followed by coconut water and tender coconut meat, while the sugarcane stays subtle. The current menu lists it as vegan with no added sugar. It was the lighter and faster-drinking choice.
Eat in SGV StaffTwo fluffy steamed gua baos with house-made pandan kaya jam. The soft bun, coconut-forward jam, and optional butter make it work equally well for breakfast or dessert.

"Start with the Mango Sago Coconut Milk if you want the richer dessert drink. It has a strong natural mango flavor, plenty of sago, and enough coconut milk to make the two flavors feel balanced. Get the Calamansi Sugarcane Coconut Water when you want something lighter and more refreshing, then add the Pandan Kaya Gua Baos with butter if you are sharing."

Since 2009, Borneo Kalimantan Cuisine has served Indonesian, Malaysian, and Singaporean hawker-style dishes in downtown Alhambra, from coconut-rich laksa and chewy pempek to wok-fried noodles and rice plates.

A newer Alhambra location of Baja Mar Taco, tucked into the Valley-Fremont Plaza on West Valley Boulevard, running a different $1.99 taco special every weekday: shrimp on Monday, asada or pastor or chicken on Tuesday, fish on Wednesday, and an $8.25 burrito with a drink on Thursday. Portions run large for the price, every order comes with a whole roasted yellow chile pepper, and the register is set up as a no-tipping counter. Food comes out fast and, for now, there is no line.
Lunasia in Alhambra is one of SGV's most popular dim sum spots, and it's easy to see why. The portions are huge, the quality is high, and they even serve dim sum for dinner. Some dishes get fancy, like truffle siu mai or a dried seafood soup that runs $338, but you can stick with classics too. Their shrimp dumplings are massive, the chicken feet are always tender, and everything tastes great every time we visit.
